Bankstone’s top brass like to get out of the office every once in a while. So they were delighted to be invited to mingle with 230 odd other guests – including many Yorkshire sporting leg ends past and present – at a lavish lunchtime fundraising event for Parkinsons Disease held this week at Halifax entertainment hotspot Bertie’s Banqueting Rooms.

The bash was organised by Halifax resident, former Welsh Rugby Union international, and Halifax Rugby League Football Club player Garfield Owen who has Parkinson’s disease himself and has personally raised over £75,000 for the Halifax branch of the charity over the past few years. Guest speakers included Harry Gration (Shut that door!) of BBC Look North and Simon Weston OBE.

Among many memorable quips bandied by the cheeky MC on the night were allusions to a DVD of Tiger Wood’s 18 favourite holes: “Unfortunately, it turned out to be about golf,” and a video of Leeds United’s recent sporting highlights “Unfortunately, you’ll need a Betamax machine to watch it.”
