People are always banging on about how we need to make insurance sexy. As beautiful a thought as this may be, there are growing fears that sexy insurance is about as realistic a prospect as professional status for brokers and underwriters.
Maybe insurance people should set sexy thoughts aside for a moment, and concentrate on having some good old fashioned fun instead.
And if fun is what you’re after, look no further than the self-professedly “rejunevated” Gaz Humphreys of weirdly named Gibraltan outfit Markerstubby.
Gaz, who recently celebrated his and Markersturdy chief exec Kev Spencer’s joint 50th Birthdays with a spot of “Genting” in Birmingham, claims his firm is “putting the fun into insurance” and, to prove the point, has launched a new heraldically inspired logo for the Markerstudly Group.
The new logo (see below) underlines The Humph’s insistence “we don’t take ourselves too seriously” by including such heraldically unusual beasts as a shark, a jackal, and a vulture above a garbled Latin motto, nicked from the US Marines, proclaiming Fortes Fortuna Juvat (which translates loosely as Fortune favours the brave or, slightly less loosely, as (the Goddess) Fortuna helps the strong).
The motto chosen for the Markerstoday crest (still awaiting official approval, Bankstone News understands, from the College of Arms) is an approximate version of the words “Audentis Fortuna iuvat” (Fortune favours the brave) defiantly yelled by the Latin champion Turnus in Virgil’s epic The Aeneid prior to his being slain in battle by the hero Aeneas.
Clarifying the thinking behind the new-look logo, Gaz explained to Insurance Ties that: “It is the whole culture thing that is different. Where we say we put the fun into insurance, but it is genuine. Our culture is everything in terms of staff. We may have the most boring job in the world, but we don’t have to make it boring.”
Which presumably saves a bit of time and effort.
