Regular readers may recall that the sum required to keep both Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s life-saving choppers in the air is £7,200. That figure, by a happy coincidence, is exactly where the Justgiving charity fundraising totaliser to the left of this story stood as BS News went to press today.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone who has supported our Monkey Business 2010 fundraising effort and helped make this handsome donation possible.
While you get a virtual pat on the back, Bankstone’s Dickon Tysoe gets to swank off and hobnob with the great and the good at events like this week’s celebration of the YAA’s 10th birthday party, held on the top deck of the grandstand at York racecourse. Both Air Ambulances took a break from rushing the injured to hospital to stage a spectacular landing in front of 200 guests and sit there bathed in floodlights for the remainder of a memorable evening.
Those guests included trustees of the charity, pilots, paramedics, former patients and fundraisers. The bash was covered by both BBC and ITV local programmes. Highlights from the BBC series Helicopter Heroes were shown throughout the evening, whilst friends of the charity shared a decade’s experiences and anecdotes.
Just because we’ve reached the magic figure of £7,200, doesn’t mean you should stop donating. It’s essential to the future of Dickon’s extravagant social life that the money keeps on rolling in. We’re still hoping to top the round but arbitrary figure of £10,000. So visit the justgiving site today and donate all that spare cash we know you’re hoarding.
