Biker Paolo Turina faces a hefty fine and six points on his licence after being clocked by Italian speed cameras doing a mind-boggling 616km/h (383mph) on his unmodified Moto Guzzi road bike.
“If I could go that fast I’d enter the MotoGP world championships,” Turina told bikers’ bible MCN. “Valentino Rossi wouldn’t stand a chance. What did they think they were clocking – a jet fighter?”
A copy of the fine notice now hangs in pride of place at the dealership where Turina bought his bike. “If the fine stands, I’m going to be contacting the Guinness Book of Records,” he claimed.
Turina’s feat comfortably exceeds the MotoGP race speed of 217 MPH, set in June by Dani Pedrosa at Mugello. Police accepted that clerical error could not be ruled out but insisted that the citation itself was valid.
