According to the ABI, that bit of cold weather at the end of last year cost insurers £1.4 billion in claims.
To reach this impressive total, policyholders racked up an impressive 467,000 claims in total.
190,000 of these claims were for home insurance – burst pipes mostly – and motor claims came in at 278,000 fuelled by icy conditions on the roads.
The ABI claims that these astonishing statistics just go to show how advisable it is to insure your home and your vehicle.
On a lighter note, the BBC reported this morning that cold weather kills an estimated 30,000 people each year in the UK, while a further 10 million shiver in fuel-poverty induced misery.
Funny old world, eh!
